How ’bout a Wacky Science Party for a Kids’ Birthday?  Kids love doing hands-on experiments that oozes, fizzles and go karplunk!  What better way to learn by having fun!  These science activities do not have to be for parties alone, do them at home just for fun, for class projects, or for a science fair!

Science birthday Party Ideas

Science Birthday Party Ideas

1.Science Party Invitations

  • Wacky Scientists. Every Wacky Science Party needs Wacky Scientists!  In the instruction to your guests, instruct them to come with their hair sticking up like a mad scientists.  Use clip art of mad scientists as your party invitations.  The write-up for the science party invitation could say: “Come On Over For Some Wacky Science Fun at …………’s Mad Lab!
  • Test Tubes. Use test tubes with screw caps to mail your invitations.  Print out party information on pieces of paper and roll it into a small tube. You can mail them in padded yellow envelopes or hand deliver.
  • Personalized Rocket Invitations. Have rocket invitations made with your kid’s name for a custom look.  This is an easy option and a great way to customize your invitations without having to make the science party invitations yourself.  Invitations are printed on quality card stock with bright, vibrant colors.  No minimum order required and less than a $1 per invitation.
  • Recycled Paper Towels. Use recycled paper to make miniature rockets with card stock fins, bodies made out of paper towel rolls, streamers as exhaust, and build a nose using silver duct tape and card stock. Write the invitation on the outside of the rocket: “Ready For A Blast at ……….’s 6th Birthday Party!? You can use the miniature rockets as party decor as well by hanging them from the ceiling with fish wire.  Hang several of them all over the party room.

2.Science Party Decorations

  • Bio Hazard. Decorate the party room and entrance with bio hazards signs, posters, and caution tapes.
  • Sanitizing Area. Use white or silver streamers and hang them in front of the door like a curtain.  Section a small area at the entrance with another curtain of streamers before kids enter the party room.  This is the so-called ‘sanitizing area’ before kids are allowed to leave or enter the party room.  When they arrive, they are required to put on safety gear and have a security check (see Guest arrival).
  • Mad Scientist Lab Room. Set up the party room with beakers, microscopes, test tubes, and lots of old jars filled with grow toys like hands, brains and feet.  Get spider webbing from Halloween stores and drape around the shelves, tables and science area.
  • Beaker Containers. Fill various size beakers with colored candy like jelly beans, pop rock, skittles, etc.  for a colorful display.  Use beakers instead of cups at the party table, as vases, to hold utensils, etc.
  • Test tube trays. Place a rack of test tubes with 5 empty test tubes for each place setting.  Fill trays of beakers with colored drinks and label them with funny, gross or unusual labels, like “Polymer Insanity”, “Hydrogen Destruction”, etc. Some colored drinks you could use are blue Gatorade, green Sports drinks, purple Kool-Aid, etc.  Let kids mix their own drink in each test tube and use the test tube as their mini cup.
  • Eerie Fumes. Use dry ice in test tubes or use a fog machine to create the sense of mystery in your science lab.
  • Hydrodynamics Kool-Aid. For an extreme sense of fun and wackiness, set up a hydrodynamic system with Kool-Aid.  Let the kids, open and close valves, configure piping, and physics to create the ultimate Kool-Aid serving machine.  Perhaps have several colored Kool-Aid in different tanks and let them mix to see what tastes best!

3.Science Party Guest Arrival and Introduction

  • Lab Coats. Since kids will be entering a Hazard Zone it is best to put on disposable lab coats before they enter the danger zone or get button-downed shirts from thrift or consignment stores.  If they are too long, fold up the sleeves or cut off some length with scissors.  Another idea is to get large white inexpensive oversized white t-shirts in bulk and cut them open in front so kids can wear over their clothing to prevent spills, stains and to use as lab coats.
  • Safety Goggles. Give all kids safety goggles to wear.  It may be cheaper to buy swim goggles and give them out as party favors or ask kids to bring their own.
  • Badge Clearance. Check to make sure guest have security clearance to enter the “Security Sensitive” or “Bio Hazard” area.  Once they have been cleared by a strict security officer (parent), give them a badge.  The badges can be made out of card stock with their picture printed on it.  Set up an area to take their pictures and print out on cardstock. Let them decorate with stickers, markers, etc. while they wait for others to arrive.  Get clip on badge holders to attach to their lab coats.

4.Science Party Crafts, Experiments and Activities

  • Baking Soda Rocket. Do an experiment with Baking Soda Rocket using a kit.  Easy to assemble, just add baking soda and vinegar.  Rocket shoots up to 100 feet high and can be reused over again.  This is guaranteed to be the highlight of the party.
  • Slime, Flubber or Goop. Make your own Slime, Flubber, or do they call it Goop?!  Kids love the squishy and slimy feel of slime and will giggle and squirm as they handle the slime.
  • Paper Mache Volcano. Make your own Paper Mache Volcano out of paper mache using recycled strips of newspaper, flour and water.  Simply shape a volcano using strips of sheets dipped into the paste and draping over the volcano.  Complete Paper Mache Volcano instructions.
  • Homemade Play Dough. Make Homemade Playdough with kids and give them rolling pins, cookie cutters, garlic presses, forks, butter knives, etc. to make their own creations.
  • Alka Seltzer Grenade. Make grenades using empty water bottles, Alka Seltzer (antacid) and Vinegar.
  • Coke and Mentos. The classic coke and mentos experiment that kids always love. Watch as Coke reacts with the mentos and propels out of the bottle using the geyser tube. You can drop the mentos with a tube (make your own) or use a mentos tube with trigger to do the experiment.
  • Egg Bridge Challenge. Give kids 20 straws, 10 pieces of tape and one raw egg.  Need I say more?  Let them try to make an egg bridge to support the weight of the egg.  Who ever has the highest height without breaking the egg, wins!
  • Egg In A Bottle. Try to get the egg into the bottle using the law of physics by heating the bottle with a match (this can be done by placing hot water in the bottle).
  • Make Snow. Add water to snow polymer to make artificial snow.  Good experiment to show how chemicals react and change shape.
  • Acid/Base Testing. Test various liquids using acid/base paper.  Determine the pH of certain liquids and foods.
  • Lava Lamps. Create miniature lava lamps using the baby bottle test tubes, oil, food coloring, glitter, trinkets, and alka seltzer tablets.
  • Balloon Surfing. Make a balloon surfboard and have fun trying to balance and surf the waves.

5.Science Party Recipes

  • Fruit Molecules. Get maraschino cherries, melon balls, grapes, and melon balls, and use tooth picks to connect the different fruit to each other in the shape of molecules.
  • Deviled Nucleus. Make deviled egg and place a whole black olive in each one to represent the nucleus of a cell.
  • Periodic Table. Make sandwiches and cut off the crust.  Cut into four so that you have four small squares.  Make at least 20-40 small sandwiches depending on the size of your crowd or what other food you will be serving.  Arrange the squares like the elements on a Periodic Table Chart.  Use colored softened cream cheese to pipe on the element symbols and numbers. If an element belongs to an orange category, for example, pipe it using orange colored cream cheese, etc.  Print out a large periodic table on a sheet, place wax paper on top, then use that as a place mat to place your sandwiches on top. Place on the table and tell kids “It’s time to eat the Table!”  You might draw some surprising looks from kids who do not know what a periodic table is but what a fun way to introduce this concept to new budding scientists!
  • Cheese Ball Virus. Get a large clear glass or plastic plate and use acrylic paint to paint the “wrong side” or bottom to look like a cell.  When dry, use the “right” side to place cheese balls on it.  Tell kids that the cheese ball virus is attacking the cells and we need to annihilate them.  Give them toothpicks to conquer the task.
  • Make Your Own Butter. Get some whipping cream (liquid form in carton) and a clean glass jar with a lid.  If the cream has been sitting in the fridge, take it out and let it come to room temperature.  Fill half the jar, and shake, and shake, and shake some more. Let the kids take turns shaking the jar.  Eventually the cream will become butter.  Drain the liquid out and what’s left is butter.  Spread on toast that you have shaped and cut out like long test tubes.

Tip: Do not used colored toothpicks since they contain a coloring agent that will color the food.

6.Science Party Cakes and Desserts

  • Make Your Own Ice Cream. Use a Ball Ice Cream maker to make your own ice cream.  Put rock salt in the outer container and your ice cream ingredients in the inner container.  Screw cap on and tighten lid.   Sit in a circle facing each other, play some fun music and roll the ball back and forth for 15-20 minutes.  After the time period the ingredients should turn into soft ice cream.  Give each kid a clean spoon for a taste test.  Of course the ice cream is not enough to feed a crowd, so have extra ice cream on hand afterwards!
  • Mini Volcanoes. Get mini bundt cake pans and make miniature volcanoes by topping the center with ice cream, strawberry syrup (lava) and fudge.  Place sparkling candles in the middle to simulate the explosion.
  • Flask Cake with Cotton Candy Smoke. Make a flash cake complete with cotton candy smoke!  For more science recipes go here.
  • Brain-iac Cake. Make a brain cake!  Bake a cake and trim off corners to make it look like a half-round.  Use icing and pipe squiggly icing all over to look like a brain.
  • Petrie Dishes. Get clean petrie dishes and pour in jello.  Place a gummy worm in each one and let it set.

7.Science Party Games

  • Periodic Table Elements Scavenger Hunt. Print out the colored version and black and white version of the Periodic Table from ChemistryGuide.org.  Cut up the colored rectangles of the colored Periodic Table and scatter them throughout the house before the party.  Let the kids know that “….the Periodic Table of Elements has lost all its colors! Please help us find them!…” Give kids each a bag to collect the colored elements.  Gather the kids together and call out the elements by name to see who has a certain element like Barium, Iron, Iridium, etc.
  • Slime Fishing. Get a large bowl and place small plastic fish and trinkets in the bottom. Place also a special toy, like a small treasure chest in the bottom.  The treasure chest is the “prized possession” . Fill a large bucket with slime and blind fold a group of kids.  Start the timer for 60 seconds and let the kids fish out as many trinkets as possible with one hand.  The more they get, the more they can keep. This activity does get messy so either play outdoors or use a large plastic sheet to protect the play areas.

8.Science Party Favors

  • Test Tubes Pop Rock. Use test tubes with screw caps to hold Pop Rock Candy.  Tie a thank you tag to the top of the tube that says “You Rock! Thank You For Coming!”
  • Sour Powder Candy Test Tubes. Give each guest a test tube filled with sour powder candy.  This is a kids’ favorite and comes already filled either in solid colors or striped colors.  Exprience flavors like Xtreme Tangerine, Melon Madness, Double Sour, etc. and let the candy color your tongue!
  • Test Tubes Experiments. Get test tubes filled with experiments and instructions for kids to take home to further their interest in science. The kit comes with 5 various experiments : (1) Grow color-changing jelly crystals, (2) How to make gooey worms, (3) Write with disappearing ink, (4) Blow touchable bubbles, and (5) Make your own bouncy ball.  Divide the kit up so that one child gets one tube.
  • Glitter Putty. This glitter putty has wonderful iridescent rainbow colors and is another favorite among kids.  The glitter putty comes in egg shell containers so it can be safely stored and reused.
  • Space Shuttle Box. Get a space shuttle box filled with space favors.  Each space shuttle favor box comes with a space glider, glow star, space shuttle lollipop, glow stick and a Space Mission stickers.  It couldn’t be easier!
  • Hazardous Waste Treat Bag.  Make a simple science party treat bag out of a black gift bag and by sticking a toxic waste patch to the front of it.  The patch could also be used as a Boy Scout or Girl Scout badge if the party is for a Troop.

Robot Birthday Party Ideas

1.Robot Party Invitations

Robot party invitations
  • Robot Birthday Invitations or Thank You Notes. Popular online stores like  Birthday In A Box, Birthday Express, and Tiny Prints have a wide assortment of robot birthday invitations available for you to choose from.  They range from easy fill-in invitations to those that are a bit more personalized and custom.  For highly customized options, try Zazzle.com or Etsy.com. as well.
  • Make Your Own Robot Invitations. You can also easily make your own invitation by using clip art, custom stock images, stickers, or stamps to embellish or decorate card stock.  This option does take more time and creativity, however, if your child is old enough, they can also help you by decorating the invitations, filling out some of the party details, putting on the stamps, etc.

2.Robot Party Decorations

Decorating Details:

  • Bold Boy Colors. The main theme colors were bright royal blue and orange, sprinkled with various shades of complimentary colors like light blue, yellow, red and steel gray.  The color theme has been carried out beautifully throughout the entire party from the party table, the decorations, the welcome signs, and even the adorable robot favor tags!
  • Table Basics. A solid white table cloth was used to cover the party table, topped with a blue runner on top.
  • Robot Birthday Banner. A Birthday Banner with a Robot theme decorated the front of the table.  This fun banner was made out of paper with each banner piece made to look like machine gears in various colors. So clever!
  • Cupcake Centerpiece. In the center of the party table a tiered server with cupcakes served as the centerpiece.  Cupcake liners in steel gray were filled with cupcakes iced in bright blue and orange icing to match the party theme.  Adorable cupcake toppers with the number “6″ were placed on top of the cupcakes since the birthday boy was turning 6 years old.  On the top tier there was an adorable square cake decorated with blue fondant and made to look like a robot face!
  • Sweet Treats. On either side of the cupcake centerpiece were bright blue boxes with splashes of colored dots in yellow, orange and green.  These were all filled with yummy treats like marshmallow pops dipped in orange or blue sprinkles, orange and blue sprinkled pretzels sticks, minature chocolates, robot lollipops and various candy treats.
  • Robot Flags. Robot Flags were inserted into each treat box as decoration and gave the party decorations some height.

3.Guest Arrival and Introduction for Robot Party

  • Welcome Banner. To welcome guests, there was a sign printed in dot-matrix-simulated font that read “Welcome To My Party My Robot Friends”,  followed by multiple squiggly wavelength signs, and the words “…Processing Excitement”.  What a creative way to incorporate the theme and to welcome your guests from the start!
  • Balloons in Theme Colors. Balloons are always a great way to let guests know where to go or to let them know they have arrived at the party location.  Since the party was held at a splash park, balloons are an affordable and easy solution to help decorate the area while creating boundaries for party events in public places.
  • Robot Photo Op. A large robot picture with a face cutout makes a great photo op at the beginning of the party.  Check out the clever idea executed by Lovely, Lovely Things. Another option, get a robot costume for kids to wear for a picture with the birthday child.
  • The Front Door Robot. If you are having the robot party at home, consider decorating the front door like this clever mom from My Many Colored Days did!  Nothing better to have a soup to nuts robot to greet you at the door!

4.Robot Party Crafts

robo part crafts
  • Robot Maze. Start off with a simple activity like a robot maze by Family Fun.
  • Robot Coloring Pages. Another good one is robot coloring pages by Kaboose for younger kids.
  • Robot Foam Crafts. Most arts and crafts supplies stores have foam crafts available.  Try to find ones in the robot or space ship shape.
  • Robot Banks. Oriental Trading has robot bank kits available per dozen and are perfect for birthdays and larger groups.
  • Robot Picture Frame. Give anyone a robot look with this fun foam photo frame! The magnetic photo frame kits make excellent birthday party craft projects for boys and girls.  Take their picture at the beginning of the party and while they are working on the craft, print out their faces so they can take home their projects at the end of the party!

5.Robot Party Recipes

  • Robotwiches. Make robot sandwiches using slices of cheese, eggs, cucumbers, olives and carrots. Place a square piece of cheese on toast as the first layer. Then add two slices of eggs for the eyes topped with sliced olives for the pupils.  Cut up one long rectangular piece of carrot the mouth, and cut up small round salami circles as bolts.
  • Computer Chips. Whoever came up with this one, very clever!  Potato chips labeled as computer chips.
  • Healthy Nuts and Bolts. Instead of the usual chex mix often seen, make healthy carrot shaped nuts and bolts using cheese sticks.
  • Robot Liquid Fuel. Water Bottles with custom wrap or just juice packs.  Got to keep the little bodies fueled up ready for their freeze dance!
  • Pretzel Dip Sticks. Pretzels sticks are easy to grab snack foods for kids. Dip in white chocolate and then decorate with colored blue and orange sprinkles.
  • Wire Cables. Robots need lots of cables and wires to keep things connected.  Get black and red rope licorice for this purpose. Use the red rope licorice for positive (+) and the black for negative (-)
  • Battery Cells. Your average ordinary marshmallow transformed into a battery cell that will turn your kid into an energizer bunny.
  • Robot Party Menu. Here is a sample menu for a robot birthday party:

Robot Birthday Party Menu

  • Robot Sandwiches (Robot shaped sandwich)
  • Computer Chips (Potato Chips)
  • Nuts and Bolts (Cheese sticks and Carrots cutouts)
  • Battery Cells (Double Stacked Marshmallows)
  • Decorated Pretzel sticks (Pretzel Dip Sticks)Robot Liquid Fuel (Juice or Water)

Robot Party Cakes and Treats

robot party cakes
Robot Fondant Cake. A plain square blue fondant cake can be decorated with grey and beige circle fondant cutouts for eyes, and rectangular orange fondant for cheeks, and a smaller rectangular fondant piece for mouth.  Add in antennas to the top of the head.
Easy Cupcake Toppers. Cupcake toppers make an easy decorating option for cupcakes.  No need to fuss with icing or fondant!
Fondant Robot Cupcakes. These fondant cupcakes were made using various colored fondant cutouts and stacked to make to look like robots.  Made by fabulous cupcake guru Hello Naomi.
Fondant Robot Decorated Cookies. Another fun idea found on Kinderplays blog is to decorate cookies with fondant like robots, similar to the cupcakes.

Robot Party Games and Activities

  • Magnet Fishing Game. Fill a large, shallow tray with water and place several objects in them – plastic toys, metal bolts, washers, aluminum foil, match box cars, etc. Attach a string to a “U” shaped magnet and see who can fish out the most items in one minute.
  • Robot Freeze Dance. Play robot themed songs and have kids do the freeze dance.  An adult plays and stops the music randomly at intervals.  Whenever the music is playing kids must dance like robots, when the music stops, they must freeze.  Whoever is caught moving is “out” and game continues until one person is left.
  • Robot Pinata. Save the Robot pinata for the end.  It is a great way to end the party and most kids enjoy it.  However, for much younger kids, a simple take home favor is perhaps more appropriate.

Robot Party Favors

robot party favors
  • Custom Candy Wrapper. Make your own or have custom candy bar wrapper made with your child’s name and with your party theme colors.
  • Robot Favor Kit. Nothing is easier than getting a favor kit already pre-planned for you.  This one comes with crayons, stickers, robot blowout, robot notepad, bouncy ball and glow necklace.  Comes in an adorable robot face take-home box with handle.
  • Robot Favor Tag. Make favor tags to go with your take-home party favor.  Have your child write “Thank You!” on the back or a short note to give it a personal touch.
  • Robot Zipper Pull. A great practical favor are these adorable zipper pulls. Have them made for each guest to take home.  Kids can then add them to their jackets, lunch bags, backpacks, mp3 holders, etc.

Seems like everyone is going green these days but what about for birthday parties? Ever imagine a birthday party without colorful streamers and pre-printed party ware? Why not? Here are some practical, eco-friendly party ideas to help plan your own environmentally friendly party without sacrificing fun!

eco friendly birthday ideas

Eco-Friendly Party Plan

Eco-Friendly Party Invitations

  • Electronic invitations. Use ecards to save on paper or use email to invite your guests.  Although not as pretty or personal, for informal parties this is considered acceptable.  For formal occasions like weddings and black tie events, stick to paper invitations.
  • Recycled Paper Invitations. Purchase recycled invitations and send party information to guests.  Some companies use completely recycled materials while others only have a percentage of recycled materials in their products.  Check to make sure that these companies are indeed using a significant percentage of recycled materials.
  • Seeds To Grow. Send a packet of seeds with a note attached. Write or type “Come and help me grow at ______’s Party!” on one side and put the party details on the back.

Eco-Friendly Party Decorations

  • Zoos, Parks, Orchards or Farms. Have an outdoor party at a local park, zoo or farm.  This way the venue in itself provides the ambiance and setting for the party.  If there is a party room decorated for the event ask to bring your own cloth table cover and partyware.
  • Eco-friendly Utensils and Dishware. Use eco friendly plates and utensils made of environmentally friendly and biodegradable materials.
  • Pots of Flowers. Use pots of flowers as party and table decor.  Let guests take one home as favor at the end of the party.

Eco-Friendly Party Guest Arrival and Introduction

Ask guests on the invitation to bring one book from home that they have already read and don’t need anymore.  Collect them as guests arrive.  Tell guests they can swap one to take home when they leave the party or donate them to the local library or charity.

Eco-Friendly Party Party Crafts

  • Potting Fun. Give each guest a terra cotta pot with flower seeds, soil and a trowel.  Let guests plant their own little garden to take home.
  • Birdie Treats. Make a delicious snack for birds using pine cones, seeds and peanut butter.  Spread peanut butter on the cone, roll in seeds and let harden in the fridge.  Hang on a tree outside for birds to eat.  Great for animals, especially during the cold winter months.
  • Beeswax Candles. Make easy beeswax candles using sheets of beeswax and rolling around a long candle wick.  Cut off excess wick at the bottom and tie a pretty rafia ribbon around the center.
  • Friendship bracelets. Get natural hemp string and make friendship bracelets using natural beads, shells and hemp.
  • Birdhouse. Get a kit to make a birdhouse.  When finished fight the urge to paint the birdhouse since natural wood is the best option for birds.

Eco-Friendly Party Party Recipes

  • Organic crackers. Get Organic Elmo, Big Bird Crackers from your local grocery stores and serve them in BPA free plastic or glass containers.
  • Organic fruits. Cut up chunks of fruit and thread on a skewer for organic fruit kebabs.  Serve chilled or slightly frozen.  Perfect healthy snack on a hot day after a scavenger hunt.
  • Organic juice in cups. Serve juice in glass cups or biodegradable cups instead of using juice boxes.
  • Organic peanut and jelly sandwiches. Make sandwiches out of whole wheat organic bread, peanut butter and if possible, jelly from a local organic farm.
  • Organic veggies and dip. Serve cut up veggies with dip for a healthy fresh crunch at snack time.

Eco-Friendly Party Party Cakes

  • Organic Earth Globe Cake. Use a round ball mold to make a round cake with organic cake batter.  Secure to the bottom of a serving dish with organic icing.  Ice the round ball blue to look like a globe.  Let icing harden a bit.  Pipe light brown icing to make the continents.
  • Organic Flower Cookies. Make or purchase cookies in the shape of flowers using organic ingredients and materials.  Decorate by piping icing on the edge of the cookies and then filling in with various colors.
  • Organic Leaf Cookies. Make green leaf cookies by using a cookie press in a leaf shape, baking it and then finally decorating it with green icing.
  • Organic Brownies. Use organic brownie batter to make delicious brownies.  Use applesauce instead of butter or oil to cut down on fat and to sneak in healthy vitamins into kids’ diet.
  • Mock Flowerpots. Line new, clean terra cotta pot with foil and fill with cake batter.  Bake according to directions in the oven.  Use a pretzel rod to make the stem of a flower, and use icing to “glue” on a flower sugar cookie.  Use fruit roll ups and cut in the shape of leaves.  Wrap around the pretzel rod in various places.  Add a few gummy worms and place inside the pot in the brownie “dirt”.

Eco-Friendly Party Party Games and Activities

  • Nature Scavenger Hunt. Go for a walk in a park, neighborhood or find a trail.  Print out several sheets of the Eco-Friendly Scavenger Hunt List and go on a fun hunt for natural elements.  The average American child does not get enough exercise, recess or physical activity during the day. This is a great way to add some activity while making a walk in the park fun and interesting.
  • Fairy or Leprechaun Houses. Find loose branches, twigs, leaves and rocks to build your own little shelter for our woodland friends, fairies and leprechauns.
  • Water Filtration. Head to a local pond or create your own “dirty water” by mixing soil and water.  Make a simple water filter using a used water bottle, filter and natural elements.  A great challenge for kids to see who can come up with the best filter that produces the clearest water.
  • Potato Sack Races. Collect potato sacks from local grocery stores, consignment stores, or salvation army and have some good old fashion fun and games.  See who can race the fastest from one end and back!
  • Knock those cans. Collect empty soda cans and pile into a pyramid.  Draw 3 lines with chalk from the cans at 3 feet, 6 feet and 12 feet ,for example.  See who knocks down the most cans.  For a challenge, blind fold the player first.
  • Homemade Playdough. Make home-made playdough and let kids have some fun kneading, rolling and cutting with rolling pins, plastic knives and forks.
  • Egg in a Bottle Science Trick. Create some excitement by showing guests how you can magically make an egg fit inside a bottle in front of their own eyes!
  • Tug of War. Get a thick long rope of about 1/2″ diameter and 100′ long.  Divide guests into two teams.  Tie a scarf in the middle of the rope and give each end to each team.  Mark a line in the center of the sand, grass or carpet.  See which team is the strongest and is able to pull most of the rope to their side.
  • Letterboxing. Download instructions to clues and hidden letterboxes all over the world or place your own letterbox for others to find.  Fun and free activity for all ages and difficulty levels.  For more information and instructions on letterboxing go here.
  • Apple Orchard. Take kids to a local apple orchard and let them pick apples.  Come back home and make an apple pie together.  Instead of candy as favor let them take their own mini pie home.
  • 350 Group Picture. What is 350 and what does it stand for?  350 is the number that scientists say is the safe upper limit for carbon dioxide in our atmosphere. 350 PPM (parts per million) is the number that we need to get back to as soon as possible to avoid more climate change.  This organization is trying to find creative ways to educate and inform people all over the world about carbon emissions and have fun doing it at the same time.  Create your own version of a group picture forming the number “350″ by using various mediums and sending it to the organization for their portfolio.  Challenge your group to get creative! {350.org}

Eco-Friendly Party Party Favors

  • Recycled Milk Cartons. Use recycled milk cartons to create recycled party favor boxes and fill with organic candy as favors.  These boxes are decorative and can double as table centerpieces as well.
  • Recycle Old Newspapers. Use recycled old newspapers to make your own simple pinata instead of buying one.  Blow up a balloon.  Make paper mache paste out of equal portions of flour and water, then tear pieces of newspaper and dip into the paste, similar to this dragon project.  Layer in overlapping fashion over the balloon until you have several layers and the entire balloon is covered.  Let dry.  Carve an opening with a sharp knife being careful not to damage the paper.  The balloon will also pop which is fine.  Open the flap and let the inside dry.    Fill with candy and tie the open closed with string.  You can now paint the pinata or decorate with stickers.
  • 100% Recycled Plastic Toothbrushes. Give something practical, useful and without the guilt of wasting plastic.  These Eco Friendly Toothbrushes are made of 100% recycled plastic, and are BPA free.

What To Do For 50th Birthday

What To Do For 50th Birthday

No matter how well you have planned or prepared for your 50th birthday, choosing what to do for 50th birthday is still a tedious job. There will be always that instance when you will be caught off-guard and it seems that you’re unprepared even if you have spent months preparing for this special event.

Since turning 50 is special milestone to anyone that deserves special planning, it’s only fitting to exert everything you can in making this special day more memorable and worth remembering. But doing so entails a lot of work and preparation since there are plenty of things that need to be taken into consideration.

It’s a fact that if you or a special in your life like your partner is about to turn 50, it calls for a special celebration. However, knowing where to start and how to do all the things needed for this can be very tricky.

Guests

Deciding whether to invite other people or not is a major thing to consider when planning any event not just a 50th birthday party. Many people prefer spending this day only with a few people close to their hearts like their partner or their family. However, there’s no better way to make this day even special than sharing your time with other people in your life.

To those who are planning to host a party with a big crowd, one good way to do it is to rent a large house in your area. This is particularly common for people who don’t have large house big enough to accommodate many guests.

Renting a large house for a day is a wise option and is much cheaper than booking your party in a hotel. If you want to have a special and intimate party with a big crowd but without spending that much, then renting a good and big house is the right option for you.

Of course, there are a lot of options for people who are eyeing small-crowd parties. One of which is book a dinner for 6 or 10 in a restaurant near you. This way, you don’t have to worry about looking after whether a large crowd is enjoying your party. Plus, you can spend quality time with each and every guest you have because there’s only a few them.

City tour

50th birthday city tour

If you’ve seen every corner in your city, you got it all wrong. In fact, no matter how long you’ve been living in that particular place, there will be that place or places that you haven’t been to.

As you turn 50, it’s about time to see every corner of the city you’re living in, which will lead you to realize that there are still plenty of places that you are yet to discover that are actually just a few minutes drive away from you.

When doing the city tour, be sure to bring with you a handy camera to capture every moment and attraction that you will encounter as you go along. From carnivals to theme parks there will always be that place that you surely haven’t been to that you really need to go and visit.

If you’re lucky enough, you might come across different tour packages that specifically cater to people who are celebrating special birthdays like yourself. If you’re brave enough, you can go and try some of the extreme adventure destinations around you that you haven’t tried before.

For those who don’t bother spending too much, going out of the country for city tour experience can be an exciting alternative. Remember that each city all over the world has something unique to offer and you will never ran out of unique places and attractions to visit if you will only learn where to go.

However, as we all know it, budget is probably the most common thing that hinders people from traveling or going to different places. That’s why starting local is a good alternative but not less exciting as going abroad. Of course attractions and the places that you can visit vary but the fulfillment that you will experience will basically just the same.

Hotel treats

If you’re still unsure of where to celebrate your birthday, you might want to try celebrating it in hotel. Whether it’s a luxury or budget hotel, spending your special day in a special day makes it even more special. Also, you don’t have to worry about what to do because with all the amenities that are readily available to you, there’s really no reason for you to not enjoy your special day.

When in the hotel, figuring out what to do for 50th birthday is never a problem because you are presented with plenty of choices and options from simple dinner by the pool or experiencing and trying your luck in the casino.

Remember that you are about to turn 50 and this is a moment that worth a celebration and there’s just plenty of things that you need to do in making this day more eventful.

With just a quick research, you will find out different hotels from low cost to the luxury ones that meets your budget. When choosing the right hotel where you’re going to celebrate your birthday in, make sure to consider the cost, accessibility, as well as the amenities.

It is important to take note of all these considerations because this will make your experience worthwhile and memorable.

As you’re about to enter the fifth decade of your life, be mindful that it’s not all about where you spend your birthday, but more of how you spend it. It doesn’t really matter whether you stayed at a luxurious hotel but it’s more of being able to enjoy the company of your loved ones and being able to enjoy this special day in your life. After all, it’s not all about the material things that matter, but the things that make us happy, which are immeasurable. So if you think you can’t afford any of these suggestions, it doesn’t mean that you won’t have a pleasant birthday experience. It’s just a matter of perspective.

Romantic Birthday Ideas

Looking for some romantic date ideas that will sweep your date right off their feet? Then, hey, you’re in the right place.

Whether starting a new relationship or celebrating a long-established one, these creative dates are a wonderful way to show your partner how romantic you can be. So read on for great ways to make their Valentine’s Day, birthday, anniversary, or any occasion truly special.

As a bonus, we’ve even got a great romantic date idea that you can celebrate with your kids!

Romantic Birthday Ideas

1. A romantic picnic– indoors or out.

One of the best romantic date ideas ever? A romantic picnic. There’s nothing quite like sharing a bottle of wine on a sun- dappled blanket and whiling away hours together talking, laughing, and simply enjoying one another. Can’t count on the weather? Sometimes it’s even more fun –and a lot more creative– to move the whole thing indoors. Take your basket, blanket, and picnic recipes and supplies, and move them into the living room. Want to make it feel extra special? Move all of the houseplants into that one room, open the curtains wide, and do everything you can to create a outdoorsy atmosphere in your home. A great Valentine’s day idea for chilly February!

2. A long massage.

This one is sort of a cross between a romantic gift and a romantic date! Spend an hour taking turns giving massages, or spoil your partner rotten by simply massaging them. Heat it up with an erotic massage, or keep it nice and relaxed with soft music and candlelight.

3. Cooking or baking together.

Some of the romantic date ideas that turn out to be the most fun are ones where you do something together. Cooking together can be a great way to have a date. Want to make it fun and special? Make your partner’s favorite cookie or dessert for him or her, while your partner does the same for you. Or make it a competition, each of you preparing your favorite dish or dessert, and deciding whose is best.

4. Have fun with music.

Sometimes in the desire to do something special for a date, you get all wrapped up in “staying entertained,” and forget the small joys of simple things, like listening to music. Light some candles (or a fire!) grab your iPod, and put on some of your favorite tunes.

Even better, make an activity out of it. Each of you can put together a playlist of your favorite songs, or your favorite romantic songs, or the songs that remind you most of your high school years. There are countless ways to go about this. Want to get to know each other better? Each of you can put together a playlist of songs that represent something in your life, and tell a story for each one about why you chose it.

5. A scavenger hunt.

Romantic date ideas don’t always have to be about quiet candlelit evenings… they can also be about adventure! If you’re planning a special date for Valentine’s Day, a birthday, or an anniversary, let your partner’s search for his or her gift become the date itself. Hide the gift, then have your partner follow clues that take them around the city (or just around the house) in search of their gift. Have fun with it!

6. Let the kids in on the fun.

Have kids and want to celebrate a romantic anniversary together? Sometimes you can easily find a sitter and have the evening to yourselves. But sometimes you can’t– and sometimes it’s even more fun that way! Want to celebrate a romantic occasion with your kids? Put them to work planning and serving a romantic evening to the “special couple” (that is, you and your spouse)!

Explain the special occasion to your kids, and let them know you want their help. Then have the kids help come up with and create menus for you to use. Ask them to help set up a fancy table and assist with the cooking, if you like. Then have them wear their Sunday best and pretend that your home is a restaurant for the evening. When you and your spouse are ready for dinner, go outside and knock, and let the kids answer the door, treating you to a romantic night together. The kid will feel special, needed, and included, and you’ll all feel closer as a family. A romantic date idea the whole family can be part of!

7. Do their favorites.

I think the best creative date ideas are the ones that celebrate your love for your partner. A great way to do this is to spend an entire evening celebrating your partner’s favorite things. Go out to their favorite kind of show, whether it be the ballet or a basketball game. Have dinner at their favorite restaurant or cook their favorite kind of food. Or be silly and buy one of their favorite items at each of their favorite fast-food chains, and serve it with their favorite drink. The sky’s the limit.

8. Transform your space.

Sometimes you don’t have a lot of money to spend on putting together the perfect romantic evening for an anniversary or birthday. But that doesn’t mean you can’t have one! Having a romantic evening is more about creating a special feeling than spending a lot of money. And a great way to do just that is to take an everyday space in your home –like your dining room– and transform it for a day. Decorate the table with rose petals and place candles on every surface. Put twinkle lights, plants, Valentine’s decorations, and anything else you can think of in the room.

9. Let them take it easy.

This is a simple but creative date idea– and is especially great for a woman who is used to doing everything around the house. If your wife or girlfriend is usually the one responsible for keeping the house clean… do it for her! While she’s at work, hire somebody to clean the house from top to bottom. Then have a great dinner catered. When she comes home to a sparkling clean house and a dinner she doesn’t have to cook (or clean up after), she’ll feel romanced indeed!

10. Be kids for a day.

Being silly is definitely compatible with being romantic– so go for it! One of my favorite creative date ideas is to do something that “adult you,” would never think about. Go to an amusement park and then have hotdogs for dinner. Play a round or seven of mini-golf. Or, best of all, go to your favorite childhood restaurant (like Chuck-E-Cheese or Peter Piper Pizza), stuff your faces, and play games together ’til you drop. Don’t want to go home with a pile of silly plastic toys? Give your tickets away to kids who don’t have many of their own… and remember how exciting that would have been when you were their age.

11. Spend a day at the beach– even in winter.

Setting up something in your home is a great way to transform any occasion into a true anniversary or Valentine’s Day tradition. During the chilly months, nothing feels quite as good as a little heat and sunshine… even if you have to make it yourself! Crank up the heat, put on you bikini and swim trunks, and treat your partner to a day at the beach. Decorate with beach towels and beach toys (beach balls, buckets, etc.), and add images of fish and other sea life. Blast your favorite Beach Boys or Jack Johnson CD, and forget that the sun ain’t shining outside!

Homemade Centerpieces

Creating homemade centerpieces for a party is a lot of fun and you can do it very inexpensively.

All you need is a little creativity.

Take this arrangement on the left, for example. It’s simple and striking, and it cost just a few dollars to make.

It would be a perfect for a casual garden theme party, a BBQ party or picnic, or an Easter birthday celebration, don’t you think?

Elegant (but Cheap!) Centerpiece Ideas

You can design your centerpiece to reflect the season if you like. Seasonal fruit piled high in a glass hurricane always makes a pretty display.

Centerpiece Ideas

Create a casual design or a fancy arrangement, depending on the formality of your party. Using dried peas, lentils, stones, coffee beans, jelly beans or candy corn to anchor a candle in a bowl or vase provides style as well as stability.

Arrange special objects on a pretty plate for an interesting look. You can incorporate your own collections into a centerpiece design too. We made one using a collection of feathers and sea shells inside a leather box once. It looked great and had a neat vintage air about it.

If you have a photo of a centerpiece you made, why not send it to us? We’ll publish it right here in our slideshow!

14th birthday ideas

A memorable 14th year old birthday never hurts anybody! It’s a fact well-known that one doesn’t get another chance to turn fourteen so, planning something special to celebrate this occasion is mandatory.

As kids hit a double digit number growing up, keeping them happy can be a complicated task! Fourteen year old are neither matured teens nor too young mini-humans who would playfully run around a fountain. They are caught up in an awkward transition in their essential journey from being a confused tween to a confident teen!

During this transformation from a shy caterpillar into an independent butterfly, they develop an intense sense of responsibility and budding individuality. The changes are so quick and unbridled that it highly increases the further dilemma of what they may or may not like. One only has one opportunity to do their 14th birthday right hence, being alert, organized and on the same page with their desires is a must!

One little mistake can cause an unrecoverable stature of consuming humiliation or embarrassment on their part. Therefore, we will help you to cautiously plan the same by providing several 14 year old birthday party ideas for boys and girls respectively with guaranteed care to avoid any possible peril.

Listed below are certain things to do for a unique 14 year old birthday party specifically endowed with promising party ideas, interesting games, group activities, party places, birthday themes and decor etc. which will receive common appreciation!

14th birthday party ideas in general:

Long gone are the effortless days when you would invite a few cute kids over, bring a cake and magician out of nowhere and watch them play mindlessly. Planning parties can prove challenging for a stepping-out-of-tween zone human full of perplexing expectations. It would be a good start with a solid plan and foresight by acknowledging how the birthday girl/boy actually pictures spending their day.

Your almost-teen might desire to add their personal element to their own B’day party and they might pretend to be too cool to ask for help. Although it should be noted that they need major financial and crucial emotional assistance for executing their final McDreamy party!

The aim should completely revolve around making them feel special by making it an event to remember for anyone and everyone involved. Selecting a theme and customizing its features, decor, desirable activities and edibles for the guests accordingly, is the first step. Finding a suitable location indoors or outdoors and the kind of entertainment that would befit the given space is another important aspect of it. Minding practical functionality, smart schedule and guarded safety throughout it all is indispensable!

Finally, duration of this enthralling madness while it lasts should be a thoughtful decision. Most 14 year olds want a longer event than the traditional two-hour child’s birthday party or you could keep the exhaustion short. Though in the brief while it occurs, one can keep the energy high in good spirits by offering delicious snacks over every few hours and closing the event with engaging entertainment. Here are few 14th birthday party themes, necessary supplies and unique ideas!

Classic Campfire Party:

Classic Campfire Party

An affordable fun theme which won’t stress you over inducing lavish decor in it. Basic campfire parties are perfectly safe for teens who’re old enough to enjoy the adventure in it but not old enough to go out on their own.

Good music, relaxing tents, bonfire as marshmallows and hot dogs are roasted on the other end of a beach or your backyard, leaves an unforgettable effect. Activities like spooky story-telling are enough to put Goose-Bumps to shame! A good old game of truth and dare can spice it up more!

Movie-night Slumber Party:

Movie-night Slumber Party

Sleepover parties remains a popular choice amidst this age group, with guests of the opposite sex staying late for movie and later heading back home while others sleep over. Depending on the guests invited, set up a movie night at home or underneath the stars.

If it’s an outdoor party, rent a projector and movie screen which will put your child’s favorite flicks on display. Let them binge-watch some Netflix if conducted indoors. Popcorn available in various flavors is an unsaid prerequisite!

Cool Pool Party:

Cool Pool Party

Pool parties are the coolest literally and figuratively! Ditch the traditionally secured household parties with an access to a clean and spacious pool. Make sure the pool isn’t too deep and party is held under careful supervision.

Activities can include easy water sports, swimming, splashing and simply dancing in or around it. Festive floats like unicorn or slice of pizza fetch extra brownie points. Hand out unicorn glitter snot sunscreen and theme-related lotions for skin protection. End flawlessly with a barbeque or pizza feast!

Adventurous Day-out:

Adventurous Day-out

Round up the kids to surprise them with an exciting outing! Take them to an usual venturesome place where they could explore a bit on their own with active tasks. Underneath parental attention and an expert’s supervision, it can range from trekking into divine nature’s escape or ice skating in snow.

It might be dependent on several factors like whether your child finds happiness in an adrenaline rush or not, weather conditions, number and age of guests included, their friend’s enthusiasm towards that activity and last but not the least, security provided for the same. Whisk them away from routine by taking them for go karting, bowling etc. for amusement followed by a nice dinner.

Neon Glow Party:

Neon Glow Party

Glow parties are all in rage nowadays. The best part about them is they’re quite easy to pull off too! Darkness won’t be creepy anymore with dim black lights illuminated with vibrant LED decor and colorful glow sticks in all shapes and sizes.

Invite your party attendees in fluorescent clothing. Keep a box conveniently filled with neon-colored and glow-in-dark accessories like plastic sunglasses, bracelets, rings, and other stuff as a party favors for your guests. Set a shuffled playlist inclusive of classic house, pop, techno and modern EDM numbers for your party.

Play At An Amusement Park:

Play At An Amusement Park

Ditch the whole party concept yet make sure their 14th birthday is nothing less of a major thrill ride! Gather the birthday person and their people of choice to have an exceptional day-out at an amusement park.

With minimal celebrations or any party planning stress required, let those restricted souls seek fun pursuits at a cost of your relaxation and their freedom. Most parks offer deals on advance bookings and certain week days so check them in advance for provided discounts on food, parking and ticket packages.

Gentle reminder-asking other parents to pay for the sake of their own child’s leisure activity is completely acceptable.

Birthday Party Ideas For A Fourteen Year Old Girl

Spa Party:

Spa Party

Hola sheet masks, soul- soothing pedicures and eye-covering cucumber slices! Every girl this age digs spa parties as it just gives them a feeling of being pampered like an adult.

You can give them a luxurious spa experience by putting up spa stations in your house for facials, foot soaks, manicures and pedicures. Decor shouldn’t ignore white sheets, comfortable pillows and scented candles as it helps set up a relaxing mood.

Keeping the activities centered around this rejuvenating theme like DIY sugar scrubs, bath bombs, having DIY face masks on as they chill listening to their favorite girl anthems etc. would make this party a hit!

Party favors may involve hampers of body glitter, bath salts, nail polishes, fluffy slippers, hair bands and much more as you ask the invited young women to show up in their athleisure wear. Serve dainty sandwiches, chocolate and raisin cookies, salads, pastas and healthy stuff for a yummy treat later!

Cookery Party:

Cookery Party

If the birthday girl is an avid foodie and adores cooking, then why not host a cookery party? Parties are remembered for good food but why bother getting some when you can have fun making some of your own.

Draw TV inspirations from Food Network’s Cupcake Wars and Chopped, Bravo TV’s Top Chef and MasterChef on Fox for this DIY cookery party. The key to not let this party sink is preparing the required ingredients ahead of time and practically contemplating the age, interest and skill-levels of the party guests. Considering on those lines, devise simple activities and competitive challenges accordingly.

Certain kitchen electronics like oven and stove may stay off or might be used under adult supervision. Ask kids to carry their own apron and chef hats before they create some edible masterpieces. You can have guests compete for the best decorated cup-cake like in Cupcake Wars.

Kick it up a notch by providing some basic pizza dough and letting the attendees design their own signature pizza with delicious toppings. The one whose pizza invention tastes supremely god in limited time, achieves the title of the Top Chef. Like Chopped, you can have certain ingredients predesignated in the basket and let the party goers make a new dish out of it. Allowing a little help from internet or YouTube, the one who finishes first with the most edible dish wins!

Princess Party:

Every girl lives in an alternate reality of being an adorable princess in her head, so give her a chance to actually be one on her B-day! Ask your queen and her entourage to be dressed up for the upcoming royal tea party!

Send out royal invitations to all guests already deciding who’s going to be who, so dressing up can be enjoyable and doesn’t clash with boredom of repetition. White and pink color theme with royal dash of gold always works wonders for this party.

Grace the occasion by adding integral castle room vibe with silky carpet, lit chandeliers, silver wands, canopies, unicorn horns, angel wings, classy beads, pink latex balloons splayed across the room, sparkly stars and crowns shapes for an ideal atmosphere.

Make the food table attractive and full of grandeur with thermal sheets, golden sprays, netted cloth, confetti, stickers and table skirts created by using functional tulle. Place fancy tea-pots, cups, cutlery and jars topped with macrons, fluffy marshmallows, cupcakes, cookies and colorful candies wrapped again lavishly on the table.

A royal pink cake will attach a charming value to it. Add big and beautiful Victorian centerpieces for an extra-majestic ambiance. Grant each prince and princess a crown and tiara introducing them in a royal way with grand music and drum rolls at the beginning.

Pleasurable activities should encourage performances from every kid as their royal counterparts and breaking various pinatas filled with chocolates and candies that they can take home later. Since nobody believes in fairy-tales more than 14 year old girls hence, this theme never fails to impress.

Hawaiian Beach Party:

A fantastic option as a birthday theme is a well-created tropical Havana for your 14 year old daughter and her friends. It appears more exotic post sunset with some fancy candles, light music and Hawaiian luau decor swaying to the beat of a gentle breeze.

You can incorporate trendy hula, fishnets, tiki torches, coconuts, fake star fish and sea shells, pineapple shaped cups, loads of hibiscus, Hawaiian hula strings, colorful flowers and various personalized elements as your party decor.

Send party invites typical to the theme with inexpensive lei necklaces attached or on a tropical silk palm leaf etc. Umbrella toothpicks and multi-color straws could be used for food and cool mock tails.

What’s a Hawaiian luau party without providing some flower crowns, flip-flops, grass skirts, breezy garlands, beach towels and beaded necklaces? Party activities should consist of hula dance lessons, decorating flip-flops, making a lei or coral necklace out of beach collections etc.

Vintage Party:

Is your child an old soul and would love to go back in time as they are moving forward? Say no more and unravel the decade of tacky party outfits, sky high hair, loud makeup, winged eyeliners, bold red lip and bling to present a nostalgic vintage experience for your party guests.

Revive the old is gold theme again and bless the birthday person to relive a day out of 80’s era on their own birthday! Play fair with glow up invites, candies, pepsicola bars and a lot of hippie stuff. Get guests ready for playing twister and other creative contests and games replicating that specific era. Fill the ambiance with funky rock and roll vibes.

Embellish surroundings in neon colors, animal prints, black and white geometric pattern. Ceilings could consist of old thrift store records hung down through a fishing line and shapes cut from neon-colored poster board. Have a blast by arranging a karaoke full of popular classics and convert it into a rock and roll concert by making guests jam and dance to those tunes. Is your soon-to-be 14 year old ready for the incoming time travel experience?

Emoticon Party:

It’s unmistakable, emojis are literally being used everywhere as a standard way of expression! Hence, celebrate their 14th birthday while sharing every relatable emotion throughout the party.

Develop a creative ambiance by drawing emoji faces on yellow latex balloons, colorful confetti and cardboard cutouts resembling the theme. Correspond the decor with smiley pillows and themed crockery which can be used later too. Request guests to follow a yellow and black color related dress code.

Redecorate pill bottles as ‘happy pill’, filling it with refreshing lemonade and serve customized macrons with it. Give the guests a chance to make their own DIY pizza with toppings and ingredients that resembles specific emoji faces, sizes and shapes.

Take a yellow table cloth and wrap it around a hula hoop, stapling it firmly at the back. Then use card-board cut outs of different emoji features with a double-sided tape applied to the back of each piece. Blindfold guests ,asking them to pin the features on the big emoji background . They are sure to LOL at the end results!

Mall Shopping:

The simple mention of the word ‘shopping’ and the idea of choosing brand new clothes and essentials independently can make any potential teen girl swoon. One doesn’t need to plan a MET Gala after-party if limited monetary access, scheduled activities and finite independence assures birthday magic!

Allow your budding teen aka. the birthday girl and her squad some liberty to spend a day alone at the nearest mall. Plan salon appointments and movie bookings in advance for an exceptional start to the surprise.

Inform the kids about the necessary details and reduce the headache of chasing them as they hop from shop to shop with excitement. Make sure that they are given a particular time of pick and drop and understand their responsibility of expenditure.

Enable them to experience a slice of adulthood though, without calling and stressing them out too much throughout the entire day. Provide the birthday diva a convenient fund which can be subjected to additional expenses of movie, restaurant and limited shopping.

Again it is totally understandable to request parents of other kids to provide their offspring with enough money to cover basic food and shopping costs. Of course let that decision be at their final discretion for their kids.

Birthday Party Ideas For A Fourteen Year Old Boy :

Laser Tag:

Boys are pretty easy to please in terms of planning a memorable birthday ahead. Mostly they would care less about fancy decor, delightful outfits and themes of beautiful make-over!

All they crave is a group recreational pursuit promising high levels of adrenaline rush which will evoke competitive activeness among them. Anything that stirs their souls with a threat of injury suits hopes of birthday entertainment.

One can pretty much rely on laser tag which induces intense physical activity but reduces chances of causing any strong danger. Gifting your birthday boy and his gang an engaging evening of laser tag and pizza treat later would be pleasant indeed.

If the weather isn’t good and the party isn’t keen on being a house held occurrence, laser tag saves from disappointing a special moment. With running and hiding around, you not only divert young men to a healthy alternative but also find a great way to burn off their excess energy!

Hotel Trip:

Book a large hotel near a breath-taking destination with an ecstatic pool, for your child and their group of friends. Calling close family and friends to make this trip more agreeable for the special occasion won’t fall any short of appreciation too.

The day can be spent touring around the place and getting lost in wanderlust, followed by an amazing celebration in the hotel later. Taking a small trip won’t hurt too if you don’t mind getting on board with a bit more expense.

Organizing a whole trip for a wider audience without letting your child know can be tricky. However, this would dissolve the stress of planning a party, being in the same household, preparing food for guests and would refresh you too instead.

What better than waking up in a different place with people of your choice showering affection while exploring the leisure experience it offers? However, it needs intricate planning about the number of guests involved and who will be staying back.

Examine the best time to book, eligibility of all your guests for free breakfast, hotel’s safety and noise policy, basic birthday decor, pool rules, negotiable special offers or complementary add-ons and time schedule of several amenities of use! It’s preferable to keep the trip local, short, simply schemed within accessible reach considering the preferable convenience of your guests.

Superheroes Party:

Every boy idolizes a savior super hero who defeats the villain with impressive yet complicated action. Give them an opportunity to live like their beloved action figure on their special day! Find all the celebrated superheroes in humankind and prep your guests to be dressed like one from various comics, Marvel and DC movies.

Acquire iconic superhero items and later hold auctions for the same. Arrange competitions to win fancy merchandise. Bring all the Pop! Bam! Thwack! Boom! Zap! KaPow! to your party decor too after transporting your living room into an action movie-set.

Just remember in case you’re running out of time and patience isn’t your super power, checking for personalized superhero party goodies online will end up in excellent and affordable results. Masks, capes and a little photo booth with innovative background is mandatory. Hang superhero logo cutouts and props all around the place.

Vinyl tablecloths can creatively function as themed makeshift curtains, doorway hangers and much more. Keep activities that endear high physical stamina yet they are safe for guilty involvement.

Plan puzzles, trivia and physical challenges like hiding their super hero friend who’s supposedly in danger at some unknown place and leave behind some clues to find and rescue them. Customize super-hero food like heroic sandwiches, cupcakes etc. that compliments the theme.

Pro-tip: Gift kids medals of honor and comic books to make your party a super success!

Minute to win it Party:

Hearts be still with this right amount of wild, wacky, impulsive, exciting and organic party theme! Creating fun challenges comprehensive of easily available props will save much more effort and time.

They are quite easy-peasy to organize and get adapted to, with only few decor supplies required. Food can vary depending on the wishes of the birthday boy but nothing too heavy is recommendable.

Everything that can be done in a minute from wrapping oneself in toilet paper to represent a mummy till sucking skittles (one at a time) up with straws from one dish and transferring them to other, will engage kids into simple and homemade recreation. Challenges can be complicated enough to be carried in a group or solely can be a simplistic individual thing which would keep them busy for a while.

Get ready to get your cups stacked, card and things thrown in a giant container, somehow summoning Oreos or cookies placed on forehead to your mouth without using your hands and balancing dice on a popsicle stick!

Although this theme is only favorable if each and every one from the guest list is reassuring and willing towards all competitions. Major participation is a compulsion for his theme to avoid it from going down soon in a boring way.

Ensure right crowd is being called as it isn’t a party for people who are just shy and end up just sitting, observing and eating. It isn’t a party for a person who competes so harshly that it’s miserable and pathetic for other participants too.

Start with simple doable tasks to encourage enthusiastic contribution. Keep the score to maintain the sincerity and good spirit throughout the game. Pausing for treats is significant as well. Align extra-ordinary and trendy gifts for the winners!

Gamer Party:

If your kid isn’t interested too much in aggressive bustle and spends maximum time playing video games or indulges in light physical play which may not seem life-threatening, throw him a gamer party instead of a cliché one.

Rope in guests to get their virtual reality GAME ON with Xbox, PlayStation, Wii and ask their friend’s to bring their utmost favorites too. Initiate a tournament where players take turns on the consoles and other types of recreational battles.

Plan light outdoor games like badminton, carom, darts, volleyball, frisbee, jenga, legos, appropriate cards and board games for more delightful amusement. Offer typical game day refreshments like nachos, nuggets, meatballs, french fries, hoagies, donuts, pizza slices, cookies , pretzels, granola bars and chips with a chill mouth-watering soda.

Props and party favors may include power up stars, catchy ghosts, striking badges, wristbands, mustaches, small trophies, metallic medals, LED balloons, video game controllers, key chains, popcorn and treat boxes, alien masks, Donkey Kong, Super Mario hats and speech bubbles.

Rewarding coupon system could get things more sizzling. Relax and watch the gaming freaks and fit teens take over all kind of games available in your customized game zone and compete with soaring spirits through alternative turns.

Scavenger Hunt:

A good old scavenger hunt never goes out to style! For those unaware of this concept, the game requires organizers to prepare a list of peculiar defined items which the participants have to seek in a group effort.

Collecting items in the fixed list as quick as possible without purchasing them earns scores further. Post comparison resulted by number of objects gathered in particular amount of time, one group tastes victory!

Now as all teens have cameras in their phone, they can have traditional scavenger hunts with a modern twist by taking pictures and videos to prove the same and complete tasks! Winner would be judged on the time the photo or video was sent to the designated person.

The only thing that needs to be taken care of is following a time limit and befitting clues and directions. Start with small familiar items. Avoid misleading and biased clues and don’t hesitate to get a little convenient on the printed clue cards.

Various themes are available online in scavenger or treasure hunt category with feasible supplies for your convenient referral. Perhaps a festive chocolate fountain in middle of this chaos would make all this to and fro a treat.

Enhance nourishment with simple items that can be dipped in the fountain of choclate joy like strawberries, marshmallows, fondue, fruits, rice crispy treats, graham crackers, oatmeal raisin, vanilla wafers, cookies, frozen mini cream puffs, Twinkies , granola bars, cherries, raspberries, mango, banana bread etc.

So above are a few ideas to select from for your youngster turning 14. Budget is a primary factor which drives the look, feel and level of the conducted party. Regardless of how smooth the party goes according to the schedule, the key is to not panic!

Maintain subtle lightness, positive attitude, sweet sense of humor, kind consideration and confer people time to enjoy the party rather than making them dance on your routine. Don’t forget that with each passing birthday, your young child is getting another step closer to adulthood and a lot of compelling responsibility. Let them prance on tunes stress-free and have fun with their amigos while they can!

Perfect Garden Party Ideas

For the woman who’s a flower freak, go all out with enough flowers to line the Champs d’Elysees!

For a milestone birthday such as the 50th, the goal would be to have fifty different types of flora gracing the party location.

Don’t panic, that’s what you have friends for … uh, failing that, acquaintances will do. To make this doable, by all means include different types of greenery as well.

Overwhelm Her With Flowers, Flowers and More Flowers

Make as many bouquets and arrangements as you can muster and place them all over your party space. Think unusual containers too. Vases are lovely but try tea pots, watering cans, and big terra cotta planters. Fancy high heeled shoes (with a plastic liner) look adorable with a bunch of pansies, paper whites, or other delicate flowers tucked inside. Flea markets and thrift shops are great sources for interesting bouquet holders. If the guest of honor has a favorite flower, by all means make it the center of attention.

  • If it’s gardening season, ask for donations from friends’ and neighbors’ gardens. You could even create little placards stating the type of flower and the name of the donor.
  • If it’s not gardening season, Trader Joe’s and Produce Junction have beautiful and reasonably priced flowers.
  • If push comes to shove and you’re desperate for more blooms, fill in with enlarged photos of flowers (especially handy when trying to reach a goal of fifty).

(We know that’s a lot of “if’s.” But that’s what we’re here for: the contingency plans.)

And Then Decorate, Decorate and Decorate Some More

This garden party idea calls for tasteful flowery decorations (in addition to all those bouquets, of course). Floral fabrics draping the tables, paper plates and napkins in a matching floral motif, or heck, get out the good floral patterned china if it’s a small party and you want to go all out. You can often find pretty china pieces in thrift stores, by the way. Mismatched china, all with floral motifs, would be a great look.

Another choice is to go with a color scheme. Perhaps one based on a flower’s name – rose and lilac come immediately to mind. This would save on visual overload.

Provide a small wheelbarrow to hold gifts and cards. And yes, wash it beforehand if it’s an actual working tool. Party favors can go in a pretty wicker basket.

Even the Guests Can Be Part of the Scenery (In a Good Way)

To add to the flowery ambience, note on the invitations that there will be no admittance without wearing some form of flower. Be strong; pretend you’re finally the gatekeeper at some upscale nightclub and now you get to determine who gets in (go ahead, practice that hint of a sneer in the mirror). Now this isn’t really as hard on your guests as it may first appear. An entire dress patterned in flowers counts, but so does a small button in a floral shape. You get the idea.

Let Them Eat … Flowery Looking Things

You can really get creative in the food department. Shall we make a list?

  • Fruit arrangements that look like flower bouquets (we’ve all seen these, right?)
  • Exotic hors d’oevres made with floral ingredients (rose water, edible flowers as ingredients or garnish)
  • Finger sandwiches cut in the shape of flowers with cookie cutters
  • Salads sprinkled with edible flower petals
  • A birthday cake decorated with flowers (could be real, buttercream or fondant)
  • Petits fours topped with delicate sugared violets
  • Homemade ice cream infused with rose water

The list could go on and on. Use your imagination and have fun!

At the end of the party sending your female guests off with a single red rose is classy; give a sprig of lavender to calm the frazzled nerves of any male guest who was brave enough to attend this heavily floral affair.

For this Italian party theme think old world Italy. Picture a narrow cobblestone road in Rome, the walls awash in warm yellows, ochres and oranges, café tables with damask cloths, delicious aromas wafting on the breeze. Now that we’re all over in Italy, relaxed and hungry, let’s get this party started!

La Dolce Vita!

Make it all about the good life when you’re planning your Italian theme party. Set a casual but festive mood with some sights and smells reminiscent of Old World Italy and your guests will be enchanted!

An Italian party theme is a great choice if the weather’s warm. Being out on a patio, a deck, under a canopy or simply in your backyard lends a wonderfully outdoor café atmosphere —perfect for an Italian theme party.

If you don’t want to eat outside, have drinks and appetizers
al fresco and come in for the meal/birthday dessert.

If you’re having your party inside, and you can manage it, empty a room (living room, family room, dining room, etc). This might seem drastic, but trust us.

Okay, we’ll be reasonable. Take out as much furniture as you can to make room for a few card tables. Rent bistro chairs (the more expensive option) or use folding chairs for seating.
Cover the tables in large squares of damask in colors that coordinate with your party palette. Besides warm oranges and ochres, an Italian party theme color palette could include eggplant, Tuscan gold and terra cotta too.

Drape strands of white lights, the kind that look like little round light bulbs, across the ceiling or around your outdoor space. Tiny lights look great wound around the undersides of patio umbrellas. For texture add some artificial vines too.

Buy some fake columns from a craft store and place them around.

Move all your terra cotta planters inside or group them around your tables outside. Get as many flower pots and hanging planters as you can find (don’t be shy, borrow your neighbor’s best specimens for the day). Make your party space as lush and colorful as you can.

Prop up a chalkboard by the entrance or by the food table with the party’s menu, itinerary or a “Happy Birthday” message.

Now, get some spotlights and add yellow, ochre or orange gels (colored plastic sheets) in front of them and point at your walls for instant warm washed walls.

Play “learn to speak Italian” cds in the background or go the traditional route with Italian music (opera perhaps?) instead.

The ultimate Italian party theme soundtrack?

A real live strolling violinist. If hiring one is out of the budget, maybe you can dig up a relative who plays (heck, even a child would do).

Ideas for Italian Party Theme Invitations

Make your own if you’re the crafty sort. Some design ideas:

  • passports
  • a pretty Italian stamp
  • the Italian flag
  • a photo of Italy made into postcards
  • a copy of a famous work of art (a painting by da Vinci, Botticelli, Michelangelo or Modigliani)
  • a copy of a beautiful Italian wine label (have you noticed how artistic wine labels have gotten?)

If you’re not a DIY type or you’re running out of time, Tiny Prints has lots of pretty invitations. The best part is that you can completely customize the wording to fit any party theme you can dream up.

Centerpiece Ideas

  • pretty cruets of flavored olive oil
  • a bowl of grapes (real or not)
  • a colorful plate of olives
  • a rose in a bud vase
  • an upscale pizza cutter in a pretty color
  • several sunflowers in a vase (a nod to Tuscany)
  • a bouquet of fresh herbs (basil, sage and flat-leaved parsley are good choices)
  • a glass bowl or hurricane vase filled with water and floating candles
  • a fat white pillar candle wrapped with raffia
  • a wine bottle with a tapered candle (drip some wax onto the mouth of the bottle to keep the candle in place)

Looking for Activities?

How about including some of these activities into your Italian party theme:

Make your own pizza
Give each table a wooden pizza server with a Boboli pizza crust on it, along with two small bowls, one with shredded mozzerella and one with pizza sauce. Have a bunch of bowls ready with all the toppings you can imagine.

Here’s our list:

  • pepperoni
  • onions
  • green peppers
  • sausage
  • pineapple
  • ham
  • chicken
  • sliced meatballs
  • olives
  • anchovies
  • bacon
  • jalepenos
  • baby shrimp
  • prosciutto
  • fresh spinach
  • fresh mushrooms
  • feta cheese
  • garlic
  • ricotta cheese
  • sliced tomatoes

Pass the toppings around and have each table create a pizza. Cook them on the grill or in the oven (or both if you have more than a few pizzas).

Olive tasting
If you want to keep it authentic, only offer Italian olives. Some interesting varieties to sample are castelvetrano, liguria, cerignola (green, black, red and yellow), ponentine, gaeta, taggiasca and lugano.

Prosecco tasting
Prosecco is a dry sparkling wine made from Prosecco grapes from the Veneto (Venice) region of Italy.

Gelato Tasting
Gelato is very similar to ice cream but not as solidly frozen. Offer your guests a variety of gelati and see which turn up as favorites. We have a super gelato store in our city with flavors like strawberry spiked with tequila, macadamia nut, coffee with Kahlua, lemon basil, Madagascar bourbon vanilla, the list just goes on and on. I just found out they ship orders! If you’re interested (and you should be!) here’s the link.

An Italian Drink Menu

If we must be honest, putting together the drink menu is one of the things we love most about an Italian party theme. There are so many great choices!

In addition to Prosecco, Limoncello is one of the more well-known Italian beverages. It’s a very sweet, very yellow and very filling lemon flavored liqueur from the Amalfi Coast/Capri area. Serve it chilled and keep it in the freezer when you’re not using it.

Some other Italian alcoholic drinks you might want to have on hand:

  • Amaretto
  • Frangelico
  • Sambuca
  • Campari
  • Grappa

Other drinks to consider:

  • cappuccino
  • latte
  • espresso
  • their decaf counterparts

The liqueurs (Amaretto, Frangelico, Sambuca and Limoncello) are wonderful poured over a scoop of gelato. What a great way to end the party!

An Italian cocktail that’s become popular here in the U.S. is the Bellini. It originated in Venice and is a combination of Prosecco and fresh peach juice or peach puree (2 parts Prosecco and 1 part juice or puree). Simple and delicious!

Sending Your Guests Home

We love these ideas for Italian party theme favors:

  • an espresso cup with a sample sized package of ground espresso
  • a pretty bag of “specialty” dried pasta
  • a small cruet of flavored olive oil
  • a homemade keychain with murano beads attached
  • a brightly colored mini colander
  • a mini terra cotta pot planted with a sprig of oregano, thyme, basil pr flat-leaved parsley and wrapped with a pretty fabric or raffia bow
  • a mini bottle of an Italian liqueur (include a pretty cordial glass if you like)
  • one perfect cannoli in a mini pastry box

Do you have Italian party theme ideas you’d like to share with us? We’d love to hear them and we’ll even share them with our readers!

Maybe you’re thinking that our dog theme birthday party is for kids. Well, those of you with pets know that a dog party knows no age!

Dog Theme Birthday Party Ideas

The ultimate dog theme birthday party is one where the guests can bring their dogs along. Think high-end dog park, socializing two-legged and four-legged creatures at the same time. Plus you won’t feel guilty about another evening out without the dog. And, yes, we realize you non-dog lovers out there have now moved to the luau birthday party page.

An obvious idea: bandanas for the dogs with the guest of honor’s name and date. And the not so obvious (but expensive): a silver charm for each guest with his/her own dog’s name on it as a party favor. Another great favor that the four-legged attendees will just love to take home: doggie treats, Frisbees, tennis balls or a dog bowl (write the dog’s name on it with a paint pen).
For the 2-legged guests, tiny choke collars which can be used as bracelets with the guest of honor’s initial dangling from them.

This particular collar is really inexpensive (yep, it’s not silver) and 14″ long so you can wrap it twice around your wrist. Love it! Adorn it with a cute dog charm if you want to get fancy.

And speaking of dog bowl…they make great serving bowls for all of the people food (new bowls please). Large bowls for chips, small ones for salsa, and so on. Use different colors and sizes to add to the fun. Put cute names on them, Spike’s Spinach Dip or Lassie’s Lasagna.

For decorations, place a gigantic cardboard fire hydrant at the entrance to the bathroom and a doghouse cardboard cutout surrounding the front door.

And speaking of dog bowls again, how about a party without the dogs where everyone goes to a ceramics shop and paints a dog bowl for their own dog. This is of course after everyone helps paint one for the birthday boy or girl, and autographs it with a cute little paw print (representing his/her dog of course) and his/her (guest’s) name. This one’s a pricey party option but lots of fun. Most of these paint your own pottery places will let you reserve tables for a party and allow you to bring in your own food/drink.
